Back in 2023, I was introduced to a facialist who, over the course of 3-4 months, meaningfully transformed my skin without using expensive treatments or technology. Her approach was focused on ingredient education—removing products that had comedogenic properties which were likely causing subtle bumps to form and prevented the surface of my skin from looking smooth. Way ahead of any social media trends, she had me double cleansing at night and incorporating active ingredients such as glycolic acid, niacinamide, mandelic acid, and azelaic acid—all of which quelled my skin’s rebelliousness.

Today, I diligently continue to operate by her recommendations, including using the Acne Safe App (free!) to assess the ingredients of every product before I purchase. This app flags any ingredients that have comedogenic properties. After years of using the software, I can assure you that what’s marketed as non-comedogenic is not always accurate; it’s important to double check a brand’s claims.

While I love the Sephora sale and certainly did some damage in early April, I typically hold out for Credo’s sale in an effort to support a retailer that is elevating clean beauty brands and pushing more environmentally friendly standards within the industry. When Credo announced their 20% off Friends and Family sale (now live for those with VIP access and then live tomorrow through May 3rd to the public!), I immediately assessed where I needed refills.

One thing that struck me when I was scanning my bathroom cabinets and drawers: so many of the products I use have proved to be tried and true for years. I’m incredibly loyal to formulations that treat my skin well and makeup that supports my everyday aesthetic.

So first let me drop my list of ride or dies.

Skincare Favorites

My favorite active ingredient formulations are as follows…

I religiously double cleanse every evening. First with my favorite oil-based cleanser and then I follow it up with CeraVe’s Renewing Salicylic Acid Cleanser.

Vivant 8% Mandelic Acid Serum - I use this at night when my skin is starting to develop a bumpy texture. It immediately nips that problem in the bud.

The Ordinary Glycolic Acid 7% Exfoliating Toner - The day or 2 after I apply prescription retinol and my skin may be dry, I use this for a refresh. I also use this on my arms and then on my legs after shaving.

The Ordinary Azelaic Acid Suspension 10% - If my skin is starting to develop a blemish, I immediately reach for this as well as my hydrocolloid Mighty patches.

Goop 20% Vitamin C + Hyaluronic Acid Glow Serum - This is the first thing I apply to my face in the mornings after I get out of the shower. I love that this formulation leverages vitamin C powder in order to maximize potency. I also like the True Botanicals Vitamin C Booster, which I mix directly into my lotion. I find that most vitamin C products that have gone viral aren’t in formulations that favor efficacy and often have comedogenic combinations so they’re not for me.

Unfortunately, 98% of the time, nighttime moisturizers have shea butter or other pore-clogging oils. And within the formulations, those ingredients are often in the first 10% listed, indicating a higher concentration within the product. The only moisturizer that passes the test for me is Ursa Major’s Golden Hour Recovery Cream. If anyone has uncovered any other products, please share!

Makeup Favorites

After I apply Round Lab’s Birch Juice SPF 50 Sunscreen (obsessed—wish they would make this for the body), I use Tower28’s Tinted SPF.

For contouring and a bit of sun-kissed bronze, I love Westman Atelier’s Powder Bronzer.

And even on days where I just apply tinted SPF and no other makeup, I religiously use RMS Beauty’s Talc-Free Hydra Setting Powder to mitigate shine.

When it comes to blush, I’m quite picky because I don’t want anything that’s too sparkly or shiny (I’m going to work, not the club)—I love Kosa’s Blush in Blissed.

I’ve been using Ilia’s Limitless Lash Mascara since they launched it back in 2018! I’ve never found anything better - especially relative to the price.

The best liquid liner on the planet for someone who likes control, finesse, and not a heavy line is this Merzy option. I prefer it in Brownie. It’s incredibly affordable and I’ve never found any better product. Thank you to my friend, Hannah, for introducing me!

Whenever Credo has their sales, I always let myself try something new. I’ve never been a big lipstick girl, but love a moisturizing balm that’s not too shiny or sparkly—just something that accentuates my natural lip color and wears comfortably. I bought Westman Atelier’s HydroBalm Tinted Lipstick (Ballerine was my color of choice) and am super excited about this purchase. Not only is the color just right and I’m pleased with how long it wore given it’s a balm, their luxe packaging always feels like a ‘treat yourself’ moment.

And finally, a couple of other items that were in my basket today: Roz Milk Hair Serum - smells incredible but I find that it’s better for me when I’m wearing more of a slick-backed look and the AKT Deodorant Balm - truly the ONLY clean deodorant I’ve been able to wear with success.

1. I love it when social media really nails discovery, so I have insta to thank for Uncommon Ancestor. It’s a UK-based company that makes embroidered stools and jewelry trays, with countless bespoke, heirloom quality options. It reminds me of a mini version of Kendall Jenner’s custom Bode x Green River Project couch, but at a much more affordable price point.

2. Credo was running a gift-with-purchase promo a few weeks ago as I was replenishing my favorite tinted SPF, brow gel, and hair mask. The gift was a full size MARA Sea Silk Lip Balm. I’m officially a convert. I love how soft and luxurious it feels on my lips. Will be purchasing again for real next time.

3. One can never have too many white tees. I recently added the AYR Practice Tee in their Dime Knit, which they describe as “satisfying heavyweight jersey.” This is accurate. I love that it’s thick, the short sleeves are slightly longer, and the crop hits juuuust right. Chef’s kiss.

4. I didn’t think it was possible to fall in love with an electric tea kettle, but I officially had a 5-day passionate affair with my friend’s Fellow Stagg EKG model, prompting me to purchase it the moment I returned to LA. It’s game-changing—with just the press of a button you can quickly achieve the exact water temperature you desire. It feels magical. Oh, and it looks damn sexy on the counter.

5. I survived the 6 degree weather in Massachusetts (barely, if I’m being totally honest), but not without my trusty Sweatshirt Sock from The GREAT. They’re nice and thick; perfect for lounging by the fire with a good read.

6. Our cultural obsession with Sarah Pidgeon continues, and my personal one is the photo of her at the Tibi runway show in NYC. The PANTS, the jacket, the full outfit. But, the PANTS! They’re flying off the digital shelves here and here.

7. Speaking of Tibi, the founder Amy Smilovic just debuted her book called Almost Reckless. I preordered it a couple of months ago and it finally arrived on Tuesday…I’m already deep into the pages. Her ability to listen to and understand her gut instinct and therefore act, build, and live in a way that’s true to her is admirable. Her words are speaking to me quite personally. I read a chapter and marched straight into my husband’s office and thanked him (again) for the sacrifices he made in order to move us out of a city that was never the right fit. As two cerebral people, that’s one of the biggest gut decisions we’ve ever made. Anyway, I’m such a fan of Amy’s—so much so that one of my early le find posts was a deep dive on her genius.

8. ILIA launched their upgraded concealer this week called Skin Blur Serum. They’ve been running activations across the city and I happened to come across one. I was able to get color matched by a professional makeup artist. The product is wonderful because it sets beautifully and doesn’t crease. It also has a little dose of caffeine for the under eyes. And unlike some of the other items at Ilia, this one passes the non-comedogenic ingredient test. It’s a win-win-win.

9. I love discovering new artists and firmly believe that incorporating art throughout one’s home grounds, elevates, and personalizes a space. Outside of TAPPAN and Saatchi, I love what The Lobster Club has built around LA and NYC. Painter Maja Długołęcka is the exceptionally talented founder. I was so sad to miss their LA show last week - she and the team always do a phenomenal job curating the spaces and incorporating food artists as well. I recently came across the artist Helen Ward and have found myself returning to her website.

10. At the beginning on 2026, I made a promise to myself that I would carve out more conscious time for creativity. Just over 2 months in, I’ve been making good on my promise and it has really unlocked something inside myself that’s a bit hard to pinpoint with words. It’s excitement, mixed with freedom, sprinkled with an even stronger drive to be more creative, pride, connection, and a bit of peace and calm. Examples of my latest creations are below. And I can’t wait for my silk screen class this month. This is a reminder make time for that “thing” that speaks to your soul.

This reality has led me to reflect on the way in which our consumer culture is programmed to confuse us, to make us question who we are and what we want, to make us second guess how we present ourselves out in the world, and therefore to often over-consume as a way to quell our anxieties and ensure we have a distinct outfit for every possible trend.

There are a few lessons CBK’s approach to style teaches us.

1. Investing in high-quality staple pieces will deliver a foundational wardrobe that can mitigate overconsumption and the feeling that there’s never anything to wear.

2. A great tailor is worth every penny when it comes to truly feeling at home in a piece. The vast majority of people aren’t model size, so to expect a perfect fit without some tweaks is often unrealistic. This is especially true for jackets and pants.

3. And most importantly: she wears the clothes, they don’t wear her. What strikes me about her style is that the individual pieces are somewhat unremarkable due to their simplicity—but this doesn’t matter. We’re ultimately enamored by the way in which she carries herself—her posture, elegance, and self assurance.

I so appreciate that while CBK’s style has proven timeless, we’re reminded that true timelessness comes from confidence—and from deeply knowing oneself. Her photos encourage a pause: to look inward to first understand what feels most authentic to you, what makes you feel confident, before turning to others for feedback or validation.

For Him

Fewer, better things. Quality over quantity. You get the idea - stuff that withstands the test of time and will be around when it’s ready to be passed down to the next generation.

There’s been a renaissance in menswear over the last few years around workwear and the Western aesthetic, and I’m here for it. I think a lot of it has to do with this realization that a lot of men have in their 30s and 40s—that as little boys, none of us really ran around the playground dreaming of working a desk job. We were cowboys, mechanics, construction workers, firemen and policemen. You know, real jobs.

There are clothing brands out there that jump on the style bandwagon and stay on for a short period of time until the next popular movement, and then there are those that have been doing it their way from the start, like Freenote Cloth. Based out of San Juan Capistrano, CA, Freenote focuses on classic American styling and the use of quality materials—every product is cut, sewn and finished in California. Pieces are built for real life, whether that is actually out on the range or running around with the kids in the backyard. Their denim is heavy and requires a bit of patience and gumption to break in, but once it does, you’ll probably stop wearing everything else. I recently picked up their Packard Goatskin Overshirt as a light, mid-winter jacket for here in LA, and I know it’s one of those pieces that’ll be with me forever, acquiring rugged marks of use along the way. Their team is fantastic, and always responsive to emails or phone calls (which I’d suggest doing before your first pair of denim to make sure the sizing is right, there are important nuances). They’ll even hem and chain stitch for you themselves (not outsourced to a tailor)—a subtle, hidden detail that emphasizes just how much they care about their products.

Another favorite, bulletproof brand of mine is Saddleback Leathers out of Texas. Their motto is, literally, “They’ll fight over it when you’re dead,” and they have a 100 year warranty. I’m not joking. Each of their goods is over-engineered to death, and their founder, Dave, does real-world product testing, often taking bags and other products deep into the African savannah to see how well they hold up. I’ve owned their leather Waterbag for over a decade now and apart from the scratches and patina it has picked up from our travels, it’s pretty much the same as the day I acquired it. I get compliments from strangers every time I’m out with it. Buy it once, use the hell out of it, and enjoy the memories each time you look at the wear it has accumulated.

Tools matter too, whether that’s a pocket knife, lighter or pair of sunglasses—broadly speaking, that EDC (“everyday carry”) the man in your life loves so much. Growing up, I don’t think I ever knew my father without a knife in his hand or in his pocket, and I think I’ve been the same way since my early 20s. You never know when you’re going to need it, and when you do, you’re glad you have it. The folks at James Brand make stylish but useful knives that keep an edge really well, and are slim enough to tuck anywhere, even into a pair of khakis for the office. Based out of Portland, OR, they engineer everything in a minimalist but functional way, and after getting your first knife, you’ll be hard pressed to find reasons not to buy a second. And while it’s less of a true “tool”, I feel like scent is an important part of the daily, masculine EDC uniform. DS & Durga opened a location in LA and we’re constantly popping by to see what’s new. Their Golfjazz collab with Todd Snyder has quickly become a favorite, and reminds me of watching golf with my father on a spring Sunday afternoon while waiting for the burgers to finish up on the grill. Core memories, carried with me every day.

For Her

I echo my husband’s sentiment when it comes to fewer, better things. With the start of the new year, I embarked on a major closet edit and, upon completion, it was abundantly clear that the pieces remaining were high quality, composed of natural materials, and had a timelines sensibility.

In a world driven by trends that peak and trough in the blink of an eye, it's easy to swipe the credit card and then 30 days later ask yourself, “what on earth did I buy?” When making purchases, my goal has been to be incredibly intentional—in some cases, I’ve waited 15 months before pulling the trigger, which actually makes the moment a piece is acquired extra special. I think with age too, we end up having deeper wisdom about what’s temporary vs. timeless and also knowing our bodies and preferences, which give us a stronger conviction around pieces that make us feel great.

Two years ago when Allison Bornstein made a styling visit, she introduced me to Lisa Yang cashmere. It has become my obsession when sourcing sweaters partly because of the way in which it has wear tested—miles ahead of any other brand I own. I should probably do an up close and personal post on this, because I’m easily 10-15 wears deep on key pieces and they still look brand new (it’s like magic). Whereas alternatives have started to pill and not age well after just 2-3 wears; these weren’t fast fashion pieces, but they certainly act like it. The quality differential is honestly remarkable. And the fact that the composition of Lisa’s sweaters is cashmere just makes her pieces more comfortable overall; I never have to worry about itchy wool.

The rest of the pieces featured above were chosen with great intention. A few to highlight:

• Harley Baroque Pearl Earrings: I’ve been on the hunt for a pair of silver and freshwater pearl dangle earrings for some time now. In the process, I’ve easily tried 10 pairs, but the proportions didn’t quite feel right. When I came across the pair featured, they were perfect - easy to dress up and down, elegant yet understated.

  

• Medium Cosmetic Pouch: When I was in Paris back in November, while walking through the cosmetic and fragrance sections of Le Bon Marche, this red pouch stopped me in my tracks. There was something so elegant about it and it stood out from everything else across the counters. I’m typically not someone who loves the color red when in comes to my wardrobe or accessories, but I have thought about the beauty of this pouch more than once since my trip. It seems like this was only recently added to the US site. I love that it can double as a tiny clutch, expanding its use cases, especially when traveling.

• De Los Santos Perfume: I just recently finished this bottle and can’t wait to get my hands on another one. This is one of those scents that no one else seems to wear, but I have received so many compliments through the years. It’s subtle, woody, and fresh.

• The Artist’s Way: My sweet neighbor just purchased this book for me after I was telling her that I’m in a period of more intentional creative exploration. It’s definitely a mini commitment to work through the exercises, but thus far, I feel it’s truly worth it.

When I rebooted Le Find this year, I talked about making more intentional purchases for the “everyday” — ones that feel more elevated and reflect a personal investment in oneself not necessarily meant for the rest of the world to see. So perhaps these land on your Valentine’s Day wishlist that you share with someone else, or instead the one you keep to yourself. To me, from me—xoxo.

• Mohair Throw: A cozy layer that adds warmth with nice textural dimension and beautiful color. I definitely have a thing for mohair, as does the pup who snuggles herself into the one we have at home.

• Overnight Repair Lotion with Retinol Treatment: A nightstand staple that looks way better than any other option on the market. We invest in skincare for our face, applying our anti-aging retinols, but often fail to care for our hands as well.

• Lab Grown Diamond Studs: An easy way to elevate your everyday uniform, even if you’re never leaving the house. The setting on this pair in particular sits on the ear lobe in an aesthetically beautiful way…because the metal isn’t so visible…that I haven’t seen from other brands. They also happen to be on sale.

• Personalized Leather Bound Journal: It’s absolutely more than likely that you’re the only person who will see it, but in my mind it represents an investment in your personal development and growth. This feels especially powerful.

So, today’s post is intended to be a practical, yet stylish reflection on how to best pack for cold weather trips based on learnings from my November trip to London and Paris. These recommendations aren’t born from aiming to achieve the perfect instagram shot—rather, they’ve been “road tested” for miles and miles on [tired] foot.

1. Base layers or bust.

Certainly the hardest working pieces of the trip—by far—and bonus points for the fact that they take up little to no room in the suitcase. Not only did they help to keep me warm, but they also allowed me to get more wears out of my sweaters. If anything, I should have packed more. I opted for cost-effective, but extra soft cashmere blend long-sleeve t-shirts in black and tan in addition to turtlenecks in order to protect my neck from any potential itchy sweater layers (personal pet peeve). I also love this for base layers.

2. Forever team [mid-weight & cashmere] turtlenecks.

I packed a mix of sweaters for the trip - a couple of crewnecks, a v-neck, 2 chunky knits, and 3 turtlenecks. To be honest, I packed way too many sweaters which was completely unnecessary because they take up so much room—lesson learned for next time!

Given the colder temperatures, I ended up rewearing the turtlenecks while the other sweaters never really left the hotel room. The turtlenecks providing full neck coverage was one obvious reason, the cashmere knit being super soft was another, but the third reason is because they were mid-weight and fit quite comfortably under my coat and other layers. The chunkier sweaters made me feel like the Michelin Man and were frankly just awkward to walk in for extended periods of time. They also didn’t provide enough incremental warmth to justify the bulk. Here are some of my favorite options: the personally love the Heidi— it has a nice tight knit and resists pilling better than other brands (1, 2, 3), these are also great options (4, 5, 6), more budget friendly options (7, 8 - strong reviews), and an Outnet steal (9).

3. Hooded bibs & balaclavas have dethroned the scarf.

Sure, they may feel trendy given their popularity in the past 6 months, but the utility is real; they have true staying power. Don’t get me wrong, I love scarves because they’re chic and can be styled in so many different ways. That being said, practically speaking there are some real downsides—especially if you’re on the go all day long. I find that they can be difficult to manage, cause me to overheat, they sometimes shed all over my coat, and I really don’t love my face rubbing against them and the makeup transfer that occurs as a result.

A year ago, I bought a hooded bib on Farfetch from Toteme; unfortunately it is no longer available for sale (Elin & Karl, please bring it back!). This piece was key to surviving the coldest days outside. It provided the warmth of a scarf with full neck and chest coverage plus the flexibility of having a hood during those unexpected London drizzles. It took up way less room in the suitcase. And, it also looked great. Perfection. It was my hero piece of the trip. While I can’t reproduce the Toteme one, here are some other great options, ordered from most to least expensive: 1, 2, 3, 4.

4. A wool coat that fully covers the chest—significantly harder to source than expected.

There’s certainly no shortage of options when it comes to winter wool coats, but narrowing it down to ones that are thicker and have a lining, fully cover the chest, and hit slightly below the knee—all while still being stylish—can feel like a needle in a haystack exercise. After searching far and wide, with FedEx & UPS visiting way too often, this Toteme number (also here in charcoal) turned out to be a great solution. I had the hardest time finding other coat options for this post—nothing met 100% of the criteria except for the Toteme linked above except maybe this chocolate one and this gray number. One Allison Bornstein recommendation that I love is layering a thin puffer underneath a wool coat if it’s especially chilly. I planned to do this, but with my other layers the puffer never left my suitcase.

5. Only tolerate great, not good, socks.

Weirdly, finding soft, warm, and thicker socks did not prove to be straightforward. I looked everywhere, but typically the options were thinner (though perfect for loafers) than desired. I used these and these every single day. I also snagged these compression socks for the 11+ hour plane ride. Chef’s kiss.

6. In lug sole boots we trust.

The first time I went to London during the winter, I made the mistake of wearing leather soled boots. My feet were incredibly cold and given the damp climate, my boots didn’t fare so well (RIP). This time around, I knew that a lug sole boot was going to be the best option—very pleased with this investment. Here are some good options across different price points: 1, 2 - take a half size up, 3, 4, 5.

Outside of big budgets (of course—we hate to admit), page after page, the stunning homes always resist being cookie cutter; rather, they’re curated with deep homage to global designers of the past, artful, have some sort of quirk or medium to mega risk that was taken (and clearly paid off!), and are styled in a way that still somehow [almost] feel lived in. So let’s take some baby steps toward making our fantasy a reality…. Today I’m diving into building an AD-worthy coffee table vignette.

As I’ve analyzed images and reflected on my own approach, I’ve started to develop a formula. Here’s my attempt to get the “science” down on paper for you all.

1. Start with some basic realities.

• What functional items are required for ease of everyday use? Are there any that you’d like to creatively hide? If so, some sort of decorative box may be of interest.

• Is there a deeply personal item that you’d like to include?

• Are there any other considerations based on your lifestyle? For example, you want to avoid being too precious about the contents given little ones running around.

2. Evaluate the style of your space.

• What are key words that capture the design of the room? You’ll want these words to feel congruent with how you style your coffee table.

• How minimal do you want the design to feel? If minimalism equals peace of mind for you, then this is an important truth to own. Your coffee table shouldn’t stress you out. Minimalism can also mean different things—from fewer pieces, to more basic shapes, to uniform colors, and / or uniform heights. When I style my coffee table, as soon as I’m done I end up taking a piece away as the “finishing touch.”

• How much do you want pieces to stand out in the room vs. blend in?

3. Evaluate the characteristics of your coffee table.

While your coffee table is your “blank canvas,” it’s really not so blank at all. Take note of the following…

• Style - Is it futuristic, rustic, utilitarian, glam, or something else?

• Size and shape - How much it can actually fit? Round coffee tables can sometimes be more challenging than rectangular or square ones because they have less surface area. In the image above, you can see how the circular table was styled to mimic the shape and seating arrangement.

• Material - Is it wood, metal, glass, mirror, marble, or something else? Is the material uniform or does it reflect different patterns, the way a busier marble might?

• Color - This one is self explanatory.

Once you know the answers to these questions, you’ll have a clear starting point and more seamless curation can begin. Note that an important through line for AD-worthy design is that it has a way of capitalizing on creating subtle tension—old vs. new, shiny vs. muted, textured vs. smooth, a pop of color vs. monochrome, etc. Additionally, the styling typically leverages at least 1, one-of-a-kind piece so that it feels special and unique to the owner. This is a great way to immediately stand apart from a West Elm or Restoration Hardware catalog.

Another tip to keep the outcome 1 of 1 is when incorporating books, push yourself beyond the titles that have become ubiquitous (I’m looking at you AD at 100…don’t worry, I also own this so no judgement!). One of my favorite stores in Paris is the Saint Laurent Babylone Bookstore & Gallery in Saint Germain. They create specialized editions of design books that are visually beautiful. And unlike Amazon orders, they come perfectly packaged to protect the integrity of the works.

Below are some analyzed examples as well as curated selections for getting started based on your style.

Subtle pops of color: The upholstery remains closely aligned to a singular color family and all the furniture has long, horizontal lines that mirror the coffee table itself. The tabletop styling introduces brighter, but complementary colors as well as variation in height and materials.

Paying homage to the table itself: The ornate coffee table in Nate and Jeremiah’s NYC living room is a sculptural art piece in and of itself. The styling is minimal so as not to steal focus from the furniture. The 3 pieces also continue the black and white color contrast theme that exists with the 3 surrounding chairs.

An masterclass in juxtaposition: The highly modern mini coffee table in Nate and Jeremiah’s LA bedroom is metallic with a more futuristic silhouette. In contrast, the styling is soft and textural with the tassels, as well as historical and organic feeling with the vintage ceramic piece.

Intentionally organized chaos: In contrast to the images above, Jenna Lyons’ style is more eclectic, collected, and colorful. There’s innately an element of curated chaos and the coffee table styling reflects the broader design. It blends pops of colors, metallics, and a variety of shapes and sizes to hold one’s interest. Knowing who Jenna is as a creative and the iconic era she ushered into J.Crew, her coffee table perfectly reflects her louder, mix and match aesthetic.

Now taking what we’ve learned, here’s some curated inspiration. Note that a simple selection of 3 - 4 items would do the trick if you aim for a cleaner look. Think about the combination of a book, a dish and / or sculptural piece, something to satisfy your olfactory senses (this is currently my favorite incense), and a standout lighter as a tasteful tool to tie it all together.

One thing I know for sure is that 2026 needs to feel different. And by feel I mean more intuitive, more authentic, and more raw - yet somehow more harmonious. So here’s how I’m thinking about grounding myself this year. I held onto these for another 2 weeks to make sure they felt juuuust right. Goldilocks style.

1. Expand my points of discovery.

   For too long, I’ve let my social media algorithm do the work of discovery for me. It’s efficient, yes—but also limiting, passive, and increasingly uninspired. I don’t want Meta to decide the boundaries of my curiosity.

   During the holidays, we were gifted a few copies of Monocle, and something shifted as I flipped through its pages. I felt genuinely awake in my discovery again. It was a quiet reminder of the sheer volume of talented designers working across the world—and how much I’d been missing by staying within the algorithm’s frame.

   In addition to returning to print, I’m craving a more intentional form of exploration at home: museum visits, wandering with purpose, and a long-overdue stop at the Eames House now that it’s reopened.

2. Create more than I consume.

   When we were kids, in the pre–social media era, most of our time was spent creating. I remember choreographing dances, building forts in the woods, weaving boondoggle keychains to trade with friends, and drawing or painting for hours at my bedroom desk.

   As I’ve gotten older, I’ve become increasingly aware that my balance of consumption to creation has shifted in the wrong direction. When work absorbs most of the day, it often leaves me feeling quietly unfulfilled—and, at times, disconnected from the person I am beneath the noise. Some recommendations that have helped me in the new year - a stop at Blick or Michael’s for some creative supplies, signing up for a local pottery class, discovering a new form of art (something like this), or even just letting go and letting lose with some “unstructured” movement.

3. Commit to the cadence.

   Over the past six months, a friend and I have committed to seeing each other once a month, despite our increasingly full schedules. When we’re together, we plan the next date on the spot—making the reservation or securing tickets then and there, so it’s officially on the calendar.

   That time becomes something we prioritize and protect. Even when travel requires us to shift things around, we treat it with the same seriousness as a board meeting. It feels deliberate. It feels special.

   More of this in 2026, please.

4. Invest in the everyday.

   I’ve always preferred to keep a largely germ-free home. After years of city living and public transit, I developed the habit of changing into clean clothes the moment I walk through the door. It brings peace of mind—and, frankly, it’s more comfortable.

   The unintended consequence is that I’ve invested very little in what I wear at home, which means I don’t always feel like myself there. This year, I’m making more thoughtful choices about what I wear while sitting on the sofa or walking the dog. Not for anyone else—for me.

   A few favorite investments include coordinating sweats (1 - size up if you want some extra comfort, 2 - true to size and this, 3 - because we know Chanel is making half-zips a thing in 2026, 4 - a good excuse to save $75 early this Q if you’re an Amex Platinum holder, 5 - I actually like the men’s version since it feels more classic), 6 - this chocolate set is what dreams are made of - top and bottom - so sad that they discontinued the Marina set - the nicest, thickest loungewear - here’s all that’s left; upgraded slippers (size up - especially if you wear cozy socks at home); and everyday sneakers from Dries - these have already increased in price, but this link still reflects old pricing.

   

5. Ask more questions; don’t pretend to know the answers.

   As you get older, it becomes easier to rely on your own experience—to feel as though you’ve already been there and done that. This year, I want to resist that instinct and make a more conscious commitment to curiosity.

   I want to speak with experts in their fields, better understand how things work, and continue learning in a way that feels real and ongoing. The coffees and lunches are already getting scheduled—and I couldn’t be more excited.

6. Lean into clean.

   While I’ve long been an adopter of clean beauty and clean home products, there have been some categories that I’ve struggled to find something that works just as well as the not-so-clean incumbents. The best example of this has been deodorant. Up until I discovered AKT a few months ago, I had tried most clean deodorants and found that they either couldn’t survive a Barry’s class or they would cause some type of very painful irritation on my skin. I’m obsessed with AKT—truly can’t recommend it enough…even made the husband a convert. After Thunder is my favorite, more neutral scent and I also use Orange Grove and Hay Fever (unfortunately it’s currently sold out). If you want to channel tomato vibes a la Flamingo Estate / Loewe, then Halcyon Summer is perfect. Note that a little goes a long way.

7. If it doesn’t feel right, it’s ok to walk away sooner.

   Sometimes we commit to things because they’re familiar, because they offer routine—but that doesn’t mean they’re right. Other times, we stay committed out of habit, hardwired to see things through. I do this sometimes with books and in other ways.

   But it feels unnecessary to let made-up rules dictate our lives. Life is too short.

   

8. Set monthly / quarterly growth goals.

   To be clear, these aren’t business goals; they’re personal ones. And by taking the time to really define them, it’s helping to holding myself accountable to each intention outlined above.

1. Classic button downs are forever pieces and I love the oversized spin by Toteme this season. The back has a drop tail hem which makes the shape more unique and increases the styling possibilities. 2. Once some natural color a la vitamin D enters my skin after winter hibernation, I reach for my blush that feels more bright. Currently #1 in my rotation is Kosas Blush is Life in Blissed. It reminds me of the clean version of NARS orgasm that was THE blush of the 2000s and has remained an icon even today.

3. Sculptural vases are one of my favorite home accessories, and there are so many fun options on the market right now. I personally love Agmes’ bud vase, which I have in green. It’s a piece of art on its own and is substantial enough to support larger single stems. I also adore the milky pink color of this pick from Polspotten and the marbled resin options from Dinosaur Designs like this and this.

4. I’ve talked about Ilia’s Lip Sketch Hydrating Crayon before, and I’m doing it again. I especially love Pink Door - it feels slightly more bold than the ever-famous Charlotte Tilbury Pillow Talk.

5. For entertaining, this glass pitcher by Sophie Lou Jacobsen is truly multipurpose, these Polspotten tumblers are seriously chic and these amorphous beauties are one-of-a-kind. These budget-friendly old fashioned glasses are an easy ‘yes’ and these from Hawkins NY are ideal for the minimalist.

   

6. For the ‘just right’ spring layer, this cashmere number courtesy of Gigi is just the right pop of subtle color. And this more fitted Lisa Yang cashmere polo is oh so sweet.

7. A perfect way to embrace this feminine color without being overt is through pouches. Cuyana’s travel and jewelry organizers come in a subtle soft rose. This one goes everywhere with me when I’m on the road. Clare V has this cute pouch which reminds me of Bottega and the gorgeous nappa sheep leather on Porto’s pouch in Sakura is really something else.

8. I’m officially out of stationery and in my mind, there’s nothing classier than a simple letterpress. I’ve always loved the dimension it adds to the thick paper. I’m going to order these from Etsy - I REALLY love the simplicity. These and these are nice too. And if you’re less into personalization, these and these are just right for those ‘just because’ messages. I feel like we need more of those these days.

9. Candles with multipurpose vessels in their afterlife are always nice. This little Loewe cutie not only smells fresh, but will be the perfect home for a succulent in the future. And while this is more of a splurge, the Feu du Bois version is currently home to a swooping orchid in my living room.

10. And a slight twist on this pink theme - we’ll finish it out with salmon. At the end of last year, the NYTs posted their most popular recipes of the 2024 which is where I discovered the Sticky Miso Salmon Bowl. The grapefruit and ginger marinade is 10/10, so it’s now the most popular recipe in our household for 2025.

The goal for this trip is always to pack light and keep it simple, so I focus more on ensuring that I have the right skincare and beauty essentials to make relaxing by the beach feel as easy and breezy as it should.

First Up: Suncare

While I never leave the house without my tinted Iris & Romeo Weekend Skin SPF 50 + Vitamin C (the universal, sheer luminosity shade is perfection), this trip, I added some SPF gifted to me by my k-beauty angel and friend. Round Lab’s Birch Moisturizing Sunscreen in SPF 50 passes the Acne App non-comedogenic ingredient test with flying colors. I don’t find it to be greasy or shiny, so it’s easy to layer under makeup. It’s also more wallet friendly than most face sunscreens on the market.

Next was my SPF lip care, which I discovered during a trip to Heyday. Image MD now has an SPF 15 lip sunscreen that I used on repeat. I’ve tried so many SPF lip brands over the years and often struggle with the product taste. This one doesn’t taste like anything, so the experience is completely pleasant. No surprise since I’m already a fan of their Ormedic Balancing Lip Balm.

Next: The Glow

Minimal makeup always feels most appropriate when seaside and in the evenings, accentuating the subtle glow from the extra dose of vitamin D always feels like the best play.

This trip, I used three products. The first was Westman Atelier’s Lit Up Highlight Stick in Nectar. My friend introduced this to me prior to leaving and it provided such a nice sheen.

My other favorite product is rms beauty’s Master Radiance Base. It gives an all-over-glow that is easy to blend with makeup or incorporate for highlights along your cheeks. I find this to be a bit more matte vs. the Westman Lit Up stick.

When it comes to the eyes, Ilia’s Liquid Powder Chromatic Tint is just right for warmer vacations since it has such strong staying power. The glaze color is nice for highlighting the inner eye. My everyday color is cork - I’m officially on my 2nd order.

Finally: The Gold

Nothing makes one feel like a golden glow goddess like the ultimate accessory, gold jewelry - especially since it’s resilient to sunscreens, salty air and water, and pool water. On this front, I always say invest in pieces you love and that feel authentic to you. Ideally they’re ones you’ll wear over and over for many years to come. Everything packed for this trip I’ve cherished for quite some time.

As you all know, it has been a heartbreaking week to be an LA resident.

While my husband and I have been fortunate enough to live outside of the fire evacuation zones over this past week, many of our friends have not been so lucky and have completely lost their homes and personal possessions.

Given the scale of the fires throughout the city, LA is now a place where everyone knows at least 1 person who no longer has a home to return to.

There has been an incredible outpouring of generosity from those near and far to support victims of this tragedy. It has been so inspiring to participate - the city is full of genuine kindness. In spending time with friends impacted this week, they have repeatedly shared that the love they’re receiving - in all forms, from notes, to necessities, to monetary donations - gives them strength and hope for rebuilding their lives.

As we’ve all been attached to the news and social media this week with information, resources, and opportunities to donate coming from every direction, I’ve found it hard to keep track of ways to support - and instagram stories are so fleeting, they end up disappearing in no time.

If you know someone who has been impacted by the fires, I wanted to share with you a consolidated list of companies who are providing complimentary care packages or discounts on goods / services to those in need. This is an active Google doc that is being compiled by locals.

For mothers, there’s a “moms helping moms” matching service that connects moms who have clothes, gear, and / or spare toys to give to other moms in need.

If you don’t personally know someone impacted, but would like to give directly to a family / person vs. an organization, Go Fund Me has created a consolidated page of verified campaigns across the city. As the scale of these fires as multiplied, these pages have grown significantly in number - especially in the past 24 hours. Reading through these profiles, you’ll learn of individual stories and see countless photos of real people.

And finally, if you’re looking to donate to an organization on the front lines or directly supporting victims, here are some great options.

The Los Angeles Fire Department - their round-the-clock efforts have been heroic throughout the city.

Pasadena Humane - they have now taken in over 400 animals.

The California Fire Foundation - they provide support to surviving families of fallen firefighters, firefighters, and the communities they serve.

Baby2Baby - they give critical supplies to mothers and children.

The LA Times also has a long list of donation opportunities.

If you’re looking for even more detail, Jess Graves sent across a Substack tonight that also linked to this consolidated Google Doc of donation and volunteer opportunities, and resources shared by Courtney Wittich.

And one final thought - I would encourage you in a month or two or even six months to a year from now to return to this page and give it another read and consideration. Perhaps set a calendar reminder. The unfortunate reality is that it is going to take months and even years for families to recover. It’s best we not forget and keep them close in our thoughts and actions.

The GREAT Sweatshirt Sock - All I can say is run SPRINT, don’t walk run. I already discovered via a store visit that there’s a woman in LA who singlehandedly purchased every single pink SKU available. I may or may not be the woman who purchased every single SKU in black (just kidding, mom!). I’m hoping they do a re-stock in advance of Christmas because right now only navy and red are available (just last week cedar (camel) and black were in stock). These are my favorite “hang around the house” sock. They’re thick without overheating your li’l toes.

Slip Silk Hair Ties - TikTok (and the general internet for those of us who are “old” like me!) has taught us that the traditional Goody elastic hair ties upon which we were raised cause excessive breakage, and we need to take extra care of our strands, especially in dry weather. Slip has gone the extra mile by creating shades to match most hair colors.

Ilia Lip Sketch Hydrating Crayon (also at Credo) - I’ve never been big into lip color; for some reason it makes me feel weirdly self conscious. Anyone else? So I’m always looking for more natural shades that layer nicely with a bit of my favorite Kosas lip balm. I grabbed the peachy color, “Pampas” and I’m in love. If you’re going to go all-in on gifting lip care, add the Alpyn Beauty Plumping Lip Mask to round out 24-hour care, especially for preventing chapped lips that inevitably appear in the height of winter. This is the clean beauty alternative to the Laneige product that has taken the world by storm.

Tenoverten “The Rose Wipes” Nail Polish Remover Pads - These are always in my cabinet, and always in my carry-on. This no-mess, acetone-free product will take extra precaution with your nails during this time of year. Kudos to the Tenoverten gals, as they’ve really expanded their distribution across Nordstrom, Shopbop, Bluemercury, and Hollywood’s favorite - Violet Grey.

Sidia NIRVANA: The Hand Serum - Full disclaimer - I’m not someone who likes super thick hand lotions. I would rather have something that feels lightweight so I can go about my day without leaving greasy shea butter smudges in my path. This reality, the scent, and the clean formulation are why Sidia has earned a coveted spot on my nightstand. If you’re looking for something that is a bit more thick - especially if you’re in places like NYC, Boston, and Chicago, WELEDA Skin Food is a clean and budget-friendly solution. I always take this to Palm Springs.

Saje Sleep Well - On the nights I feel particularly “wired”, I always roll this across my wrists and inhale deeply. The scents of chamomile and lavender peacefully lull me into a deep sleep. And if I’ve properly planned ahead, I will have already consumed a cup of MagnesiOm.

Misc. Goods Co Meadowland Incense - Speaking of piquing our olfactory senses, this is the perfect incense for your home. Place it in a smudge bowl from Incausa made just for the occasion. We have a bowl by Humble Ceramics, which has unfortunately decided to close shop, but you can still find some items on Mociun.

Frama Herbarium Hand Wash - Chicer than Aesop (yes, I said it and I wholeheartedly mean it). This product is just sooo pretty on a bathroom or kitchen counter. The packaging is glass, not plastic, and the scent is beautifully subtle. I also find the hand soap more nourishing than others on the market.

Hawkins New York Essential Waffle Dish Towel - Yes, dish towels are not the sexiest stocking stuffer, but, to be honest, who above the age of 27 / 30 is not always on the hunt for a dish towel that’s effective, but still looks nice after multiple washes. In walks this sexy thang! And for context, this recommendation comes on the heels of being a loyal user of this product for 3+ years.

Diptyque Sapin Mini Room Spray - This pine-scented wonder embodies the scent of Christmas. It’s nostalgia, it’s the great outdoors, it’s the giant tree in Chevy Chase’s Christmas Vacation, it’s elegant. If you think your recipient is more of a candle over room spray person, fortunately Diptyque has got you covered.

The creative inspiration for this post was a result of a fun little pattern I observed over the past 3 months. Without intention, my husband and I ended up with one “old school” photo of us in August, September, and then October. The most recent one was especially fortuitous. We were on the dance floor at a family wedding and halfway through the evening, one of the photographers casually handed me a polaroid. In keeping with this pattern, I ordered a box of polaroid film and had let my mind brainstorm the compositions. If none of the aforementioned products speak to you, perhaps an investment in a polaroid camera and some boxes of color or black & white film are just what you need to capture the most precious holiday memories.

Over the next 8 weeks, as friends and family so generously invite us to participate in holiday festivities that celebrate togetherness, it’s that time to fill a small corner of your closet with a handful of hostess gifts so you can be prepared to grab and go.

Here are some of my favorites that feel universal, but a bit different from the everyday.

If the recipient loves modern minimalism, they’re likely to love these durable pieces. They have 2 different planter size options (small and large) that smartly come with a matching saucer. I find that the modern planter with saucer combo is hard to come by, so this is an “it” pair (and bonus points for being dishwasher safe). You can even go a bit further by planting a succulent, herb, or holiday flower. Comes in shiny gray (small, large), matte black (small, large), and matte natural (small, large).

Brightland Pizza Night Set - 2 Olive Oils & Balsamic Vinegar

I haven’t seen Brightland sell this specific combination in one package previously, but I would argue that this grouping truly captures the “best of.” All 3 products are independently in regular rotation within our household. In fact, I just used the olive oil and balsamic vinegar to make salad dressing. I tossed it with some arugula, toasted pumpkin seeds, snap peas, and Pecorino Romano, with a dash of salt and pepper. Chef’s kiss.

Soft Services Hand Cream

The hand cream that went viral for its chic nightstand or desk-ready container. This is perfect for very dry winter nights and days ahead. This medium-weight cream even has retinol to fight aging in a place we spend much less time thinking about relative to our faces, but still needs an equal amount of love.

Byredo Candle

This is one of those gifts that screams sophistication - a holy grail hostess gift that anyone would be drooling over and therefore eternally grateful. My favorite scents over the holidays are Ambre Japonais (black peppercorn, coriander, bourbon vanilla, toasted sesame, and sandalwood) and Ancient Sand (rose petals, cardamom, cedarwood, carrot seeds, raspberry, and crisp amber). Ancient Sand is currently a limited edition scent, which comes with special holiday packaging. Though not holiday-esque, I am a personal fan of Summer Rain (basil, spearmint, fig, ginger, tonka beans, and sandalwood) - ugh even just writing out of notes made me yearn for the fresh scent.

Cacao & Cardamom Chocolates

I had never heard of this company until my husband received a gift from a colleague in celebration of Diwali. The flavors in the 5-pack we received were truly unbelievable - bites like Cashew Katli - cashew praline infused with the aromatic essence of cardamom and Chai Biscuit - chai-infused dulcey ganache, delicately layered with Parle-G cookie butter. Here’s the flavor guide for their overall assortment - these are not your run-of-the-mill creations. You will not be disappointed.

Levain Cookies

I’ve never met a single soul who doesn’t enjoy an indulgent bite of NYC’s most famous cookies. I especially love their holiday flavors, so it feels like the right time to order an assortment for your favorite hostess (and even yourself). Their Fall Chocolate Chunk flavor is ginger, nutmeg, clove, cinnamon and molasses with chocolate chips. And their Dark Chocolate Peppermint is self explanatory. My mouth is honestly watering right now. And if you’re craving the classics plus a hint of holiday, you can try their assortment

Madre Napkins

I guarantee these will not be in stock for long. The combination is way too good to pass up during the holiday season. And what’s nice is that these will still feel relevant all winter long. I would also pair these with a black, red, or white-handled Sabre cheese knife if I wanted to go the extra mile.

Small Ceramic Vase

A longtime fan of Mt. Washington Pottery, I use Beth’s tall tumblers for arrangements throughout my home. This one is nice and neutral, so the lucky recipient will be able to use it year-round.

Malin + Goetz Tomato Room Spray

2023 and 2024 are certainly the “years of the tomato” when it comes to a totally unexpected fruit becoming the star of the olfactory scene. I really don’t think anyone expected it, and it seems we have Flamingo Estate to thank. Anything from Flamingo Estate is a great option - especially the Roma Heirloom Tomato Candle. If you’re worried, however, that your host has received something like this in the past, then Malin + Goetz’s recently-launched room spray is the next iteration of this aroma. They also have a complementing candle.

Who else is with me?!

Gosh - all I can say is that I found packing for Paris to be difficult due to the constantly changing weather forecast in advance of our departure. What I brought in my suitcase was clothing for 70+ degree weather, but the reality was that most days were high 50s to low 60s with real feels even a bit cooler. I found Paris weather to be way more mercurial than London.

Here are my biggest learnings from our early September trip…

Where I mis-packed:

Too many dresses: In anticipation of warmer weather, I packed a number of sleeveless midi dresses, but ultimately only ended up wearing one. Dresses were too cold prior to 12PM and after 4PM, so I found that it just wasn’t worth the risk.

Too many outfits per day: I also packed separate outfits for nicer dinners, and, while I did wear 1 or 2, based on our schedule and desire to see more of Paris, we most often ended up staying out all day. The traffic and metro system in the city were less than ideal, so even if we wanted to take a break at our hotel, it just didn’t make sense.

Where I should have doubled down:

In hindsight, the pieces that ensured maximum wear were easy-to-layer classics that seamlessly transitioned from morning to day to night. It sounds way too obvious, but for someone who overly relies on dresses when packing for new adventures, the top + bottom combinations became the unexpected stars.

A leather shacket: Packing a leather jacket was the best decision I could have made - it was a good balance of style while providing a layer that protected from the wind. I wore my shacket way more often than planned...like WAY more often. When we were in Japan in October of last year, I also packed a leather jacket (this one a bit heavier) and this too turned out to be just what was needed for maximum comfort and style.

A few of my favorite shackets are here - from Iro, COS, Nanushka, Stella McCartney, and Isabel Marant.

Easy black pants: Perfect for transitioning from day to night without having to worry about being presentable for dinner and drinks. The pants I wore most often were one of my favorites from Toteme via the Outnet (same pants also at Ssense). Another great style includes this one from Toteme. These were easy to pair with sneakers, sandals, and heels.

Feet-friendly sneakers: I’ve professed my devotion to my Golden Goose Ball Stars and can confirm that these are definitely the investment to make if you’re walking many miles per day. I prefer the versions I wear to be understated (read: not sparkly), like these white + black ones, silver + white ones, all white ones, and ivory nylon ones.

Blouses: I really should have packed even more blouses than initially planned. These layers are lightweight, taking up very little space in a suitcase, but great elevated transitional items. Here’s one of the blouses I wore a few times (and have proudly owned for 4+ years). I also love this from Isabel Marant (because when in France).

Classic Button-Downs: I packed my plain white Apiece Apart top and my black Frame poplin shirt (both closet staples for 4+ years as well) and was able to wear them easily with blue denim, black denim, black wool pants, and over a dress. I would also dress these up at night with elevated earrings from Agmes.

Classic T-Shirts: Always perfect for layering. My two go-to styles are from James Perse and Leset. I prefer sizing up in both based on the fact that I like wearing my t-shirts a bit more breezily.

Where I made a last minute purchase in country:

A versatile scarf was necessary for a layer of added warmth - particularly in the evenings. Normally September would feel way too early for a scarf, but it just happened to be what the weather required in order to stay cozy.

Cheers to the classics never failing us. And cheers to Paris because, my goodness, it’s Paris!

One of our favorite ways to experience cities and cultures is through food.  In advance of any trip, a significant amount of time is spent researching restaurants - reading guides, searching for “off the beaten path” recommendations, and combing through reviews. While consuming incredibly delicious bites reflective of the local cuisine is absolutely a highlight, we also experience so much joy through our conversations with the restaurant teams - learning more about fresh, in-season ingredients and their takes on nearby hot spots.

So, here’s our Paris short list of the true highlights. Just writing this nearly made me buy a return plane ticket.

If you’re looking for a white tablecloth Michelin-star experience…

Restaurant PAGES is tucked away on a quiet street quite close to the Arc du Triomphe in the 16th arrondissement.  Chef Teshi, a self-described perfectionist, studied in Japan and continued learning the craft in Tokyo-based French restaurants before moving to France.  The pre fixe menu delivers thoughtful and inventive dishes that deliver next-level flavor.  The kitchen is compact and open, so guests can see the chefs at work - the way in which they quietly collaborate is unlike anything we’ve experienced in a restaurant.  And the sommelier and service only further elevated the already phenomenal tasting experience.  This is truly our most memorable meal in Paris.

If you can’t score that reservation at Septime (and even if you can)…

Be sure to secure a reservation at Geosmine.  We were fortunate enough to try both restaurants and agreed that Geosmine had an edge.  The 11-course tasting menu is a 3-hour experience, so be sure to come hungry and pace yourself - especially since the desserts are just as much a highlight as the food itself.  The flavor combinations were unlike anything we’ve encountered, and were always spot on.  Another logistical advantage is that you can book this spot months out, allowing you peace of mind as your trip nears.

For classic French fare with an international twist…

Frenchie was our second dinner in Paris and we were absolutely blown away - it set the bar high, giving us the early signals that we were going to be in for a treat throughout our trip.  The restaurant offers two seatings per night and their menu is a celebration of French food with international influences.  Chef Greg Marchand was an absolute delight.  Outside of supporting local purveyors, he owns a number of restaurants across the street and next door, making Rue du Nil his spot.

For an unforgettable lunch…

Mokonuts seems to be making the rounds on a number of Paris restaurant lists, and for good reason.  The very intimate establishment in the 11th arrondissement is run by a Japanese-Lebanese couple (Moko and Omar) and only open for breakfast and lunch.  Due to the fact that the restaurant seats less than 20 at a time, reservations are definitely necessary.  While we were enjoying our meal, we witnessed many attempted walk-ins turned away.  The menu is small and changes daily, filled with fresh, mouthwatering options cooked with incredible skill - Omar was previously at Daniel in NYC.  And Moko, who easily walks miles upon miles in a given day within the small space (honestly, Hoka needs her to front their next campaign) is known for her baked goods, so you can’t miss out on dessert.  Once our tummies were full, we requested the cookies to go and thoroughly enjoyed our afternoon snack.

For the best street food…

While we did try L’as Du Falafel, we found ourselves having a stronger preference for crepes.  These were often our mid-day bite as we were trying to maximize our time on foot across different neighborhoods.  Of all the stands we tried, our favorite was in the 6th arrondissement and called Creperie des Arts.  Not all crepe stands make the actual crepe fresh and fortunately this one did.

For the best croissant…

This was a tie for us, yet in some way the two patisseries are too different to compare.  Both La Maison d’Isabelle and Mamiche have towering selections from which to choose.  Expect a line at both, though the wait will likely be longer and slower-going at Mamiche.  

Other honorable mentions include our meals at Septime, Clamato (owned by Septime, walk-ins only), and Eels. Though the focus of this post was really on the standouts.

In some ways I feel I should apologize for a complete lack of food imagery, but I didn’t want to spoil anything, and was also way too busy eating to take my own photos!

First up, the “electronics”:

Clutch Charger: The shape and size of a credit card, but slightly more thick, this charger can easily slip into your wallet, purse, or a jacket pocket without feeling weighed down. I recently had to purchase a new one because my phone was no longer compatible and first made the silly mistake of trying to buy something comparable and cheaper on Amazon, only for it to arrive and be way larger and heavier than desired. Clutch is my favorite daily travel charger that I’ve found this far, and will get you through 1 extra battery cycle. When purchasing from their site, they often offer discounts on the 2nd and 3rd items, so they’re great for holiday stocking stuffers too. The deals were so good I had to exercise constraint not to buy 5. Here’s the one for USB-C iPhone 15 & Android, and here’s the link for iPhone 14 and older.

Apple AirTags: For the trips that require a checked bag, we slip one of these into the luggage for easy tracking. Wirecutter published an article stating that Apple’s product is the best that they’ve tried. Once at your destination, if you’re exploring a city, it’s great to move the tag from your luggage to your backpack just to be safe. They come in a 4-pack or individually.

Rain Rain Sleep Sounds: This is a free sound machine app that’s perfect if you need some white noise to drown out any hotel or city sounds. I’ve seen travel articles over the years that recommend white noise machines to buy, but this one makes it so you don’t need to worry about fitting another gadget in your bag.

Next, the beauty must haves:

Cadence Capsules: I’ve written about these so many times and certainly don’t plan on stopping anytime soon. Whether it’s a simple overnight or a 2-week extended trip, my toiletries are clearly organized and labeled in these genius capsules that prevent me from having a toiletry bag exploding with random travel-sized products (that also aren’t environmentally friendly). Use this link to get $20 off your first order.

Lapcos Face Masks: These are ideal post-plane for much-needed hydration. They pass the Yuka app and Acne Safe app tests with flying colors, so the ingredients are both clean and non-comedogenic. My favorite are the cica (unfortunately currently sold out), but the collagen ones are also fantastic. They have many options depending on your needs and skin type, including hyaluronic, aqua, and honey.

DS & Durga Travel Ball Perfume in Coriander: One of my all-time favorite scents, there’s something so nice about rolling this on your wrists and neck when you’re on the go, especially if you don’t have too much time to freshen up between exploring and dinner. Other pocket perfume scents I love are the Atlantic Rose and Debaser.

‘Lil treats for your feet:

Golden Goose Ballstar Sneakers: I’m clearly biased; however, in my opinion, these are the best sneakers to wear while traveling to major cities because they’re comfortable, durable, and stylish. Any other shoe I’ve tried hasn’t come close - and they’ve certainly been tested, averaging 10+ miles per day in many cases. I find these days that Farfetch has the best prices. Here’s a classic black & white pair, a beige & silver pair, and these are the pair I wore throughout Rome a few years ago.

Comrad Compression Socks: I was recently at a bachelorette party where “the best of” recommendations were being shared across the group (an incredible conversation to have by the way - so many fantastic finds). These compression socks came highly recommended. While I haven’t had a chance to give them a test spin just yet, they’re ordered and ready to wear. You can procure them directly through their site as well as Nordstrom.

Cases & cubes:

Soft Sunglass Case: While a hard sunglass case is necessary to protect your favorite pair for the airplane portion of your journey, when I’m out and about I have found that a hard case takes up too much space in my crossbody. Instead I’ll use these soft microfiber sunglass cases, which also double as a cloth for keeping them clean.

Packing Cubes: These are honestly game changing. Not only do they help with keeping your clothing compact, I find that they’re great for staying organized throughout the trip because each of my packing cubes has a theme (e.g., workout clothes, undergarments, t-shirts, etc.).

However, I’d be lying to myself (and all of you) if I didn’t admit that I’m currently lusting over playful jewelry and accessories that celebrate the beach-y vibes that accompany summer. For now, I’m going to blame my desires on the very rainy LA winter that was followed by “May Gray” and “June Gloom.” With July around the corner, and the heatwave this past weekend, summer is officially here. And all I can think about is some seashell pizazz (cue jazz hands!).

Jenny Bird Petra Earrings: Aren’t pearls & shells such a lovely combo?! I keep revisiting these beauties, which means I’m getting targeted with them as well. It’s an endless, yet inspiring, loop. They also come in gold. And these Dylan Earrings are gorgeous with a pendant necklace to complement.

Mejuri Seashell Studs: Currently sold out, but I would encourage you to add yourself to the waitlist. These also have a matching pendant that can be moved across various chains. I love it as an addition to a dainty pearl chain.

A Thought-Provoking Read:

Two months ago, as I was walking home from the gym scrolling through podcasts in a non-committal manner - akin to scrolling through the latest shows on Netflix - I stumbled upon an episode of The Ezra Klein Show called, This Conversation Made Me a Sharper Editor. I was immediately intrigued by the title, so pressed play and quickly learned that the focus of the show was an interview between Klein and Adam Moss, an esteemed editor best known for his role as Editor in Chief at New York magazine for 15 years. During his tenure, the publication broke award-winning records. After he left the magazine, he started focusing his time on painting and creating art and quickly realized that he was deeply curious about how an artist creates something from nothing.

Back in April, he published a book on the topic called, The Work of Art: How Something Comes from Nothing. Within the pages, he interviews 43 creatives - from designers to directors to sculptors and beyond to dive into their processes. Think Sofia Coppola, Marc Jacobs, Stephen Sondheim, and more.

It’s essentially filled with 43 short stories that not only provide insightful text, but include countless pages of sketches, photographs, and copies of private notes that visually showcase one’s process on a specific output. I personally have found it quite fascinating, even in the cases where I’m less familiar with the particular individual featured.

As I’ve read the interviews, my biggest takeaway is that more often than not, there is utter chaos and even confusion throughout the creative process. The journey is far from linear, even for those who are at the top of their fields. This has given me a sense of relief as I thought about navigating my own creative path.

Yes, this takeaway may seem obvious to many, but as someone who has spent so much of my professional life operating in environments with clearly defined, linear growth paths, and also so many rules related to output creation with the specific goal of mitigating chaos at every turn, the insight felt quite liberating to me. There are plenty of other much appreciated learnings throughout the pages, but I certainly don’t want to give away any spoilers.

My Latest & Greatest Female Finds:

I finally had a chance to try the ROZ MILK Hair Serum over the past few weeks (after it finally hit the shelves at Credo) and have been loving the results. Bonus points for the intoxicating smell.

The Jenni Kayne Rio and Riviera Slip Dresses are perfect for summer and easy for packing, offering nice versatility for day to night looks while keeping you cool in the heat. I was honestly tempted to buy them in multiples.

Reformation’s Olina Linen Pants, which come in multiple colors and patterns, are a nice choice for errands, beach and pool days, and brunch with the girls. Thank goodness Ref offers complimentary hemming.

I received the Goop Colorblur Glow Balm as a gift with purchase a few months ago and have been using it as my go-to cheek color on days I want a “glow” but don’t want to wear as much makeup. I’m really loving the color and application.

I’ve been on the search for an everyday mug when drinking tea at home, but have been like Goldilocks when it comes to pulling the trigger. Most often, I find the mugs I discover are too small or the opening is too wide, allowing heat to escape faster than desired. I want a classic mug shape and size with an easy-to-hold handle for practical purposes, but a more creative twist in the execution. After finding these mugs by Kati Von Lehman at General Store and seeing them in person, I think I’m ready to pull the trigger. They’re super cute. Should I do it?

1. The casual summer layer: The Todd Synder x Champion sweatshirt. It’s great for guys and an easy borrow for the gals. I’m especially a fan of the colors that have more of a stonewashed look, but you can’t go wrong regardless.

2. The everyday tee: The Buck Mason Pima Curved Hem Tee. Easy to layer, but equally perfect on its own. It also comes in a henley version, which I LOVE and a version in slub cotton, which has a great texture and is slightly more lightweight for the season.

3. The essential year-round denim jacket: The RRL Lot 271 Trucker Jacket. This is a fan favorite that has the wash and proportions down to a perfect science.

4. D.S. & Durga cologne: Cowboy Grass and Mississippi Medicine earn the #1 and #2 spots. These smell incredible - especially the Cowboy Grass, which feels more appropriate for summer - think herbs and grass, light citrus, and leather. My love for D.S. & Durga runs deep - David’s talent is standout.

5. Footwear for the summer traveler: The Golden Goose Ballstars. If you’re headed to Europe or anywhere else in the world where you’ll be doing some walking, these are the tried and true footwear of choice in our household. Yes, they’re on the pricier side, but worth every penny. I still wear a pair that’s 7 years old and I can’t even begin to count the comfortable miles I’ve walked in them (and in style!).

6. When shade is necessary: The Ebbet’s Field Vintage-Inspired Ballcaps. There are so many styles to choose from, so these can feel especially thoughtful and personal, whether it’s a favorite college team or an obscure hometown minor league.

6. The “just right” linen button down: The Katin Alan Shirt. They do the perfect job of delivering on a lightweight yet classy shirt with great proportions and an elevated stripe that’s not overly preppy.

8. Unique and high-quality sunnies: The Garrett Leight Mr. Leight Stahl S or Mr. Leight Marmont II S Sunglasses. These never skimp on style and they’re lightweight with the titanium construction. The metal edge around the lenses really modernizes the look.

9. For a zen vibe on the home front: The Misc. Goods Cone Incense Burners in Meadowland. This is the new favorite scent in our home. Light this as you’re watching the latest HBO or Netflix release. And if you’re looking for a good dish upon which to release this fantastic scent, try this from Notary in Portland, OR, this wabi sabi style from Cultiverre, or this mini bowl from Humble Ceramics.

10. An everyday tool: The James Brand Carter Knife. Comes especially in handy for cutting tags off of new clothes - oh and for more rugged purposes as well. My husband never - and I mean never - leaves home without a knife in his pocket, and this is usually the one he takes. He once convinced a security guard to keep it safe during a movie premiere so it didn’t need to be confiscated. The guy saw the style and brand and said, “right on.”

11. The classic accessory: The Tanner Goods Classic Belt. Comes in a number of leather colors and metal combinations, but cognac is the right shade for summer. They also have great wallets.

12. For a dip in the pool, ocean, or some faraway sea: The Bather Swim Trunks. They come in so many patterns and colors to match one’s style. But all around, they’re a good vibe.

13. An elevated button down: The Corridor Natural Weave Top. This shirt in person is stunning. Gorgeous material and good quality construction. It’s sure to stand out for all of the right reasons.

14. The ultimate dad shoe: The Birkenstock Bostons. For walking the dog, grabbing the mail, a morning coffee run, and everything in between.

15. Perfect for personalization of a favorite piece: The Kimondo watch strap. I especially love the Hockenheim line. It comes in a number of different leathers that are a timeless complement to so many watch faces and styles.

Seeing organza exist as a fashion theme for the past year or so has given me all of the romantic and highly-inspired feels when it comes to dressing because it offers such a feminine element while still catering to a minimalist aesthetic. It’s all about the power of a gorgeously soft and airy material that transforms what would otherwise be considered everyday pieces - button down shirts, t-shirts, basic skirts, and dresses, for example. And I would remiss to not talk about the way in which the fabric interacts with light - when the sun shines on it, the subtle sheen comes alive.

There have been moments when cultural images have captured elements of the word in a way that put me in a state of awe as I’ve stopped to appreciate the stunning beauty. The one that most clearly stands out in my mind is when Flaming June was prominently featured in the Prado Museum in Madrid. The curators put a gold frame around the glowing painting and then hung it on a deep, hunter green wall. At the time, I had a student pass to the museum and would go often just to admire every element of the piece and its gorgeously complementary presentation.

When it comes to choosing a tote (or really most fashion items for that matter), I’m quite picky because I want the bag to be a piece I’ll use year after year. That means it has to fit some key criteria. My must haves include:

• True shoulder straps - anything shorter is just not practical in my book because I need at least 1 free hand for my matcha!

• Large enough to carry the essentials

• Sufficiently sturdy to withstand more “fashionably rugged” use

• Ideally not “run of the mill” - when you’re out and about, you should rarely see someone else carrying it

• Can’t be so wide such that it awkwardly protrudes from your body and shoulder, knocking into everything around you - want to avoid bull in a china shop vibes

And in narrowing down my favorites, I bucketed them into 3 themes that seem to cover my bases when it comes to the major use cases.

For my first 3 picks, the inspiration was “Summer on the Italian Riviera”. Channeling Gwyneth in The Talented Mr. Ripley - think flowing white linens, espadrilles, gelato slowly melting off of the cone, and tart citrus. Stripes are everywhere, but in a non-preppy way, with the varied colors coordinating with a specific beach club. Here are the bags I would carry as I walk across the rocky terrain and gaze out onto the sparkling blue sea, Aperol Spritz in hand (duh!).

Mansur Gavriel Limited Edition Pascucci Tote: I’m admittedly not a big stripes girl, but ever since MG launched this partnership with Stamperia Pascucci 2 years ago, I have repeatedly revisited the bag selection. I love the fact that it can fit a laptop, has leather handles, and the base is slightly circular which makes for a more visually appealing and dare I say “summery” shape. Their Raffia Market Tote is a more subdued, but beautiful choice too.

Clare V. L’ete Tote: This comes in two different versions - the more beachy version below as well as the weekender version in a fun green and navy. It’s lightweight, so easy to pack, but also perfectly roomy for all of your summer and beach essentials. Clare V.’s Sandy Tote, which has almost gone viral at this point is a more minimalist woven option, which comes in 3 different colors - natural, black, and orange + blue. Note that during May, it’s 15% off everything at Clare V. with code LEWEEKEND15 - get it while it’s hot!

Loeffler Randall Crochet Tote: This comes in the light blue and white (pictured) as well as green and white, which gives strong Zendaya tennis-core vibes. I also love the Orion striped version here. It’s slightly smaller than a typical tote, but has handles that are long enough for a comfortable shoulder carry. If you’re looking for something roomier that skews a bit more muted, the Angelo Timber Woven Leather Tote in gorgeous vegetable-tanned leather, could be just the thing.

My next theme is “Day-to-Night Transition”. In my mind, the Olsen twins are the embodiment of this type of ease. There are countless articles that feature their looks as perfect transitional styles - it’s no surprise that The Row is known for this specific versatility and aesthetic. These bags will make you feel chic and appropriately dressy, regardless of the hour hand on the clock.

Dragon Diffusion Vintage Mesh Tote: I’ve been so happy with the craftsmanship and quality of the Dragon Diffusion bag that I purchased last summer, though it’s not large enough to be considered a true tote. Here’s a roomier option made to last year-after-year. Though harder to find these days, the large version of the Santa Croce is also a true beauty (smaller version here is much easier to find).

Ulla Johnson Tulia Large Knotted Hobo Bag: It also comes in a gorgeous, rich brown pecan shade. This is likely more ideal for those who worry that white will get too dirty. I absolutely adore the fact that this bag has the traditional elements of a woven summer bag, but is made from leather, which increases the durability. Visually, I really appreciate that there are 4 different weaves throughout the piece.

Hereu Calella Leather Tote: Though the bag can function year round, I found the shape to feel a bit more summery. It also comes in this distressed black leather version and if you love raffia in brown or black, or canvas and leather combos, you’re covered. If you’re looking for more of a splurge option, this bag reminds me of the Khaite Sara Tote, currently on sale in white, tan, or black (a rare treat!).

My final picks are inspired by a “Summer in the City” vibe. This could be NYC, London, Rome…you name it. These selects are for those who love a minimalist summer wardrobe filled with chic neutrals. The visual I specifically had for this one was SJP as Carrie in her SATC charcoal LBD, but swap in some barely there flats for traversing the town in the sun, hair slightly curled from humidity, and iced matcha latte in hand. With this theme, raffia is king (or should I say queen!), because it celebrates the season.

Janessa Leone Tanner Bag: Uniquely comes with a mechanism for carrying your hat without worrying about it getting crushed or damaged. If you’re someone who never leaves the house in the summer without a hat, this one feels just right.

ME+EM Soft Raffia Tote: It’s giving the Loewe Puzzle Raffia Tote, but flipped horizontally instead a vertically, and for a beautiful fraction of the price.

Nili Lotan Lucile Tote: If you love the classic Loewe classic basket bags, but aren’t big into logos, this option gives a gorgeous quality, quiet luxury vibe without the high price tag.

Loewe Hobo in Raffia & Calfskin: If you’re going for a splurge, my vote would be this one because it’s understated and edgy while still being minimalist luxury. This is one of Loewe’s latest bags that is perfectly roomy with comfortable shoulder straps. Some of their other designs aren’t as shoulder friendly if you’re going to be walking a few miles. If you’re looking for a great classic option, you also can’t go wrong with their Anagram beauty.
