I have struggled with dry, brittle nails my entire life and, as I have researched the various causes, have continually cringed at the awful chemicals that exist in the majority of nail products on the market. Shortly after I moved to LA, I was introduced to a clean and eco-friendly nail care brand and salon called Tenoverten. This is a company that has managed to deliver the perfect blend of effective, clean, and beautifully-packaged products. Their Bauhaus-inspired branding makes their products a chic addition to one’s bathroom counter.
I have 4 favorite products from this brand and, for my closest friends and family reading, many of you might recognize a few of these items from your holiday stocking stuffers.
Acetone-free nail polish remover wipes that are easy to use at home or on the go. The wipes are highly effective, but don’t risk dehydrating your nails like typical acetone nail polish. Additionally, one wipe can effectively remove nail polish from all 10 fingers and toes. I’m obsessed (and I don’t mean this lightly) and always make sure I have a stash in my bathroom and my bag. If you’re considering buying just 1 thing, make it these…and maybe even pass them out like party favors at your next girls’ dinner or drinks.
When my nails start to suffer from back-to-back manicures, I use this to mitigate peeling.
The Celery Oil for Nail Strength
I use this in combination with the nail primer to nurse my nails back to health. It’s like a green juice for your nails.
Marketed as “sheer elegance. A universally flattering pink for the ultimate buff-your-nails-but-better effect.” I can’t agree more. And it doesn’t hurt that the name affectionately reminds me of my grandmother.
About Tenoverten:
The brand came to fruition through beautiful, spa-like and modern nail salons and has ultimately scaled through its curated, namesake products that promise to be free of:
“The eight” most common nail chemicals that risk health and indoor air quality - toluene, dibutyl phthalate, formaldehyde, formaldehyde resin, camphor, triphenyl phosphate, ethyl tosylamide, and xylene
Vegan and cruelty-free - their products are not tested on animals
Gluten-free - taking into account those with celiac disease and gluten sensitivities
During the pandemic, they were forced to close the majority of their nail salons and today, they have one remaining salon on Fulton St. in the Financial District of NYC.
In 2021, they started to pivot toward DTC, rebranding their assortment, introducing new products, and also expanding distribution through Target. You may be fortunate enough to have in-person access to their lovely products right in your hometown.
About the Founders:
Tenoverten was founded by Nadine Abramcyk, Adair Ilyinsky, and Jaclyn Ferber in 2010 with the mission of delivering simple, conscious beauty. Nadine and Jaclyn are sisters who have had to navigate the complexity of operating a family business with some funding from their father while scaling, diversifying, and managing the challenges of the pandemic. From what I’ve been able to gather, they are still fully funded by themselves in addition to family and friends. This is a huge feat when it comes to retaining brand value and economics.
I hope you enjoy this one - especially the Rose Wipes.
